Fun Websites For Kids: StarFall
Since my job requires me to be on the computer a lot, it’s only natural that my children are VERY interested in computers as well. Their uncle recently introduced them to the joys of YouTube videos and I decided that I could find something much more productive for them to do on the computer than watch Peanut Butter Jelly Time over and over again. I’ve found several fun websites for kids over the years but one that I always go back to time and again is called StarFall.

Starfall is an excellent site for both of my kids (ages almost 3 and almost 5). It has four levels of learning: ABC’s, Learn to Read, It’s Fun To Read, and I’m Reading. Each level contains online lessons, printable material that accompanies the lessons, and different holiday-themed activities for that level. It’s always satisfying when you can find fun things for kids to do that are educational as well, and I find the activities on the Starfall website to be pretty entertaining to my preschoolers.
Apparently I’m not the only one who finds Starfall to be among the best fun websites for kids. According to Starfall.com
Starfall is recognized and highly rated by experts. The Reading Teacher named Starfall.com one of “Five Internet sites too good to miss” (May 2006). In 2005 and again in 2008, Homeschool.com recognized Starfall as one of their top five educational websites. Starfall was the first Internet site to be recognized by Children’s Software & New Media Review as the highest rated product in their Early Elementary category, Spring 2004.
My almost 5 year old son is going to be starting preschool in about a week and a half and I don’t have any preschool lined up for my almost 3 year old yet. So I’m really glad that she will be able to keep using websites like Starfall to progress with her learning and to have fun while her big brother is in school. Stay tuned for additional fun websites for kids as I am planning to make this an ongoing feature on the site.
